Obama’s Regulatory & FCC Czars Favor
Suppressing Free Speech
President Obama has picked two individuals for powerful positions in the government who believe that the government should control what kind of information is available to the
American people.
One of these radicals is Harvard Law Professor and long-time Obama friend, Cass Sunstein. He has been picked to be the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Czar. He has not yet been confirmed by the Senate.
The other is the Federal Communications Commission Diversity Czar, Mark Lloyd. He admires Venezuelan Marxist leader Hugo Chavez and how Chavez has handled the media in his country. Lloyd wants to duplicate what Chavez has done here in America to
suppress free speech.
On September 1,
Glenn Beck interviewed New York Post reporter Kyle Smith and Media Research Center reporter Seton Motley about Sunstein and Lloyd.
Smith has reviewed book, On Rumors: How Falsehoods Spread, Why We Believe Them, What Can Be Done. Sunstein believes that it is up to the federal government to suppress “falsehoods” on the Internet. In fact, he says: “A ‘chilling effect’ on those who would spread destructive falsehoods, can be an excellent idea.” He also believes that there should be a “notice and take down” law that would require bloggers and service providers to
“take down falsehood Cass Sunstein’s new s upon notice” –
even those made by commenters to blogs.
“In short,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty, “Sunstein would put the Obama government in charge of determining what is true or false on the Internet and would have the power to take a person to court over whatever Obama bureaucrats might define as ‘falsehoods.’ This is a direct attack on the First Amendment and freedom of speech. Many people have been victims of falsehoods on the web, but I fear having the Obama
Administration determining what’s true or false.”
Mark Lloyd is the current FCC Diversity Czar. Seton Motley with the Media Research Center has researched Lloyd’s background and found him to be an anti-capitalist radical who is a disciple of leftist rabble-rouser Saul Alinsky. (Hillary Clinton was trained by Alinsky and President Obama learned how to be a “community organizer” in an Alinsky-inspired organization.
Lloyd had this to say about the First Amendment and freedom of the press:
It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press. This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies. The purpose of free speech is warped to protect global corporations andblock rules that would promote democratic governance.
Lloyd is an admirer of Marxist tyrant Hugo Chavez. Here’s what he has said about Chavez:
In Venezuela, with Chavez, is really an incredible revolution – a democratic revolution. To begin to put in place things that are going to have an impacton the people of Venezuela. The property owners and the folks who then controlled the media in Venezuela rebelled – worked, frankly, with folks here in the U.S. government – worked to oust him. But he came back with another revolution, and thenChavez began to take very seriously the media in his country. And we’ve had complaints about this ever since.
What did Chavez do with the media in his country?
Well, he imposed new
regulations on cable TV and revoked the licenses of more than
200 radio stations.
Chavez is an enemy of free speech and so is Mark Lloyd.
